When police responded to a 911 call saying a man had been shot, they discovered 65-year-old Ronald Cyr had triggered a gun he set up as a security booby-trap. The man had rigged the gun to fire whenever someone tried to enter through the door. Apparently Cyr forgot to disarm the device before opening the door. Cyr died at the hospital from his wound. There were other booby-traps in additional areas of the home that police called in the bomb squad to disarm.

Suicide.

Moreover, the suicide rate for older veterans is higher than that of non-veterans. For veterans age 55 to 74 years old, the rate of suicide is 26 per 100,000, while nationally, the suicide rate in the same age group is 17.4 per 100,000. The rate ticks up even higher for veterans over 85 years old.

Couldn't fine obit but that is what me thinks.

Bernie,
Possibly. High levels of paranoia is a common PTSD reaction. My uncle is a Vietnam vet, and fell into paranoid schizophrenia after his recovery from shrapnel in the brain (paralyzed for a year, etc..). He's in a nursing home now, but spent his life (after he got his PhD) mostly working around the family farm.

Others have set similar booby traps, shot burglars and been convicted of a crime.

I'm not seeing anything in the OP's link - or the others I could find quickly - that say the guy was a veteran.

Why assume he was?

Can't find an Obituary.
That usually means no family to post or pay for one.
