Ketogenic diet helps tame flu virus. Summary: A high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet like the Keto regimen has its fans, but influenza apparently isn't one of them. Mice fed a ketogenic diet were better able to combat the flu virus than mice fed food high in carbohydrates, according to a new study.Nov 15, 2019

I have been saying for years that low carb is healthier. The challenge is to fight big grain.

Sigh. The Keto Diet isn’t even new.

A balanced diet watching calories is likely best for all.

Fad diets are...fads.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

It may be labeled a fad, but it works for many including myself having lost 75 pounds. Also has many other implications, US Military and especially US Navy Seals are finding it can extend dive times of their divers (other branches also find improvements in stamina on the battlefield) because when the body is in Ketosis it produces less CO2 which is what causes the urge to breath rather than lack of O2. I found this particularly interesting as someone with COPD anything that improves my lung function is welcome and I have measurable improvements in my own to verify the findings of the US Navy.

Lots of skeptics and folks that say it is hogwash and to stick with a well balanced diet but there are also many first person success stories like myself and even my doctors find my progress to be rather remarkable and amazing.

Ketosis technobabble aside, fat or protein or carb calories are calories, but it's obvious our body handles them differently.

Have two eggs for breakfast one day, have a can of sugary Coke the next. These are the same amount of calories. See how far through the day each one gets you.

The slower release of fat and protein makes it less likely to snack, that is where calories can ramp up quickly.

Atkins is one version of Keto and has different levels of carb restrictions.

Glad it worked for you! Adherence rate is what makes ANY diet work. I lost 40 lbs on a diet that doesn't work for my wife, and I am still on it 5 years later.

The keto diet has some substantial negative consequences for some people, too.

So educate yourself on whatever new diet you try.

Lots of controversy about the claimed negative consequences, guess it depends on the individual, in my case regular blood testing with CBC, lipid panels, and comprehensive metabolic blood tests all came back with the best numbers I have seen in years, even my cardiologist was rather surprised when I told him how I had been eating. His comment was no point in denying success as I accomplished all the parameters he had given me as targets.
