Patriots caught recording Bengals sideline

I post this with the full acknowledgment that I am a loser Cowboys fan who has nothing better to do.

Pats say it was inadvertent...for a whole quarter until a Bengals employee reported the situation.

[patriotswire.usatoday.com]

A Bengals employee believes they saw a New England Patriots scout recording the Cincinnati coaches and staff on the sideline for the entire first quarter of their Week 14 game, according to ESPN’s Dianna Russini.

Similarly, the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Dave Clark and Tyler Dragon reported Cincinnati staffers “believe the Patriots were stealing signs from the Bengals sideline during Week 14’s game in Cleveland.”

The Patriots sent an advance scout to watch the Bengals-Browns game, as is standard procedure in the NFL. However, the scout arrived with a video team, which Bill Belichick said was there to film the scout for a documentary series for Patriots.com called “Do Your Job.” The Bengals saw it differently and notified NFL officials, who took the video recording.

The New England Patriots acknowledged that their production crew inappropriately filmed the field and sideline during Sunday's game between the Bengals and Browns in Cleveland and accepted full responsibility in a statement released Monday night.

The crew was credentialed by the Browns to shoot video for a Patriots web series called "Do Your Job" but the Patriots did not inform the Bengals or the NFL, which they called "an unintended oversight."

"The sole purpose of the filming was to provide an illustration of an advance scout at work on the road," the Patriots statement read. "There was no intention of using footage for any other purpose."

The Patriots also said the production crew, which included independent contractors who shot the video, is not part of New England's football operation.

Signals, playbook chart, player tendencies, etc. These things while subtle can give a team an edge on how another team conducts business and what play might be called.

Since the team is seldom able to either stick to or execute it, knowing the Bengals game plan in advance info would only confuse an opponent.

All this kind of reads like Zuck wrote the Patriot's response.

At least on Sundays, Bill has someone else do the filming. On Thursdays, he's free to do it himself.

The only thing plausible is that the Pats cheat. Always.

A things to point out.

I find the excuse to be disingenuous. For Belichick to claim he has no knowledge of video productions seem implausible to me given how much power he has and how much attention he pays to detail. He runs or is aware of all things going on in the organization. You are going to tell me that post Spy-gate that any video crew action by Patriots staff is not scrutinized by him or his underlings to avoid this type of scandal again?

The wording of the admission says the video crew consisted of some contractors. Which means some of the video crew were Kraft/Patriots employees. According to reports, the crew identified themselves as Kraft employees.

When approached by Bengals personnel, the Kraft employee reportedly said let’s just erase this and forget it happened. Why would a person want footage to be erased of what was done was not wrong or inadvertently?

If inadvertent, why was it a whole quarter? Would it have continued if the Bengals employee had not intervened?

Some people point out that the Bengals are a bad team and it doesn’t matter. With Dalton back under QB, it would seem like a certain team would like any edge they can get in order to secure more home field advantage during the playoffs.

There is too much going on for this to be some kind of coincidence.

Bill Belichick said [the video team] was there to film the scout for a documentary series for Patriots.com called “Do Your Job.”

In an in-depth 2015 report into Patriots scandals of the past, ESPN reported that the team provided video production crews with ready-made excuses if they were caught recording illicit footage.

From that report:
“During games, [Patriots video assistant Matt] Walsh later told investigators, the Patriots' videographers were told to look like media members, to tape over their team logos or turn their sweatshirt inside out, to wear credentials that said Patriots TV or Kraft Productions. The videographers also were provided with excuses for what to tell NFL security if asked what they were doing: Tell them you're filming the quarterbacks. Or the kickers. Or footage for a team show.
