Economical Office chair without a wafer-thin seat cushion?
Posted by: Acer
Date: January 03, 2020 11:59PM
Any suggestions? So many chairs, even the mid-range $ ones, have what seems like one inch of padding that compresses to 1/4" in about a week. Looking for something easy on the bum with arms and sub-$200. Herman Miller and his pricey buddies are not an option, sorry, so waxing about the virtues of a $1000 chair will not be necessary smiling smiley

I switched to a chair from the container store that uses bungee cords as the back and seat. Very comfortable.

I bought one similar to this from these guys about five years ago. My husband is still using it in his home office.

It is built like a tank.

I put off getting a home office chair FOREVER. Had some disappointing ones and mediocre ones at work, so I was hesitant to buy something inexpensive, and I was too gun-shy to invest in something high end without being able to properly audition it. So I made do with various chairs we had around the house for way too long.

Finally stumbled across this one at Staples, and it has been a winner. Stylish, comfortable and in your price range. It's on sale for $229 right now. I don't know if the cushion is to your standards, but it's thick enough for me, and it doesn't seem to have crushed down at all in a year and a half. The back support is my favorite part.

I bought an Aeron with a broken seat bottom for $50, bought a replacement seat bottom on eBay for $50, and ended up with an Aero n for $100 and an hour of my time.

There are plenty occAsion chairs on Craigslist for $2-300.

Highly recommended.

I'm wondering 'Who makes a good seat cushion?' as that was my first thought and I have an ok chair but it's in need of some more cush. I don't have much of my own.

So many cushions are just a couple inches of soft foam, and they flatten in a heartbeat.

I'm thinking of something thick made of closed-cell foam on top of .5-1" of sorbothane type foam.

Well, there's this. Several to choose from at many different price points. You really have to want a seat cushion to buy the top end one, but if you're padding your rear end, why settle?

LOL! I'd buy one just because they have Colin Mochrie as spokesmodel!

Those Purple cushions are great, according to my Pop. I bought him one last Spring after he was having some discomfort sitting in his favorite chair. He's constantly praising how nice it feels.
