Poll
Which would you prefer, receiving a thoughtful gift or choose what you like and I’ll pay the tab?

This is for a good friend I’ve known for 20+ years. Was a rock during my dark days. Time for an expression of thanks. If a dollar amount helps in deciding, $800 - $1K.

Thanks for the input.

If you’re absolutely certain you know the recipient would love the gift you choose, then buy it for him/her. Otherwise a gift certificate at a store you know the recipient loves might be safer.

It's a tough one..
As a concept, the "fullfill a wish" is the better gift, but it's harder for the recipient to "shop on someone elses dime", knowing they're doing that. I know I'd be both grateful, and uncomfortable, receiving that.

If you give that wish as a "package deal" sort of thing, as a gift, then they recipient might have an easier time accepting?

Hard to say without knowing what it is he wishes for.

But, just sayin'.... an airfare/hotel package to Thailand for a week is unlikely to go too far wrong. grinning smiley

Take your best shot at what you think might please him accompanied by a clear explanation that an exchange or swap of same will in no way hurt your feelings.

I’m not touching this one with an Epstein shaped pole.

You know there's lots of awesome stuff to do in Thailand that's not underage girls, right?
Beaches, Thai food, 2000 years of history, jungles...
And, the women at the massage places are legal...

A gift of self and time. A shared memory and appreciation. Do you share a hobby / interest ? That $400 fishing reel and a day offshore fishing for mermaids ?

Luckily, that’s our SOP. Visits are all day, and phone calls are usually measured in hours, not minutes.

The better you know someone, the easier it is to learn what they might wish for but not be able to afford (or be willing to give themselves). You know this cat...
