Major outage at USPS.com

Have been unable to track any packages all day. All attempts return a service not available error.

Looks like it’s been down for most people all day along with pick up scheduling and other services.

How is that different from "business as usual?"

It's Sunday on a three day weekend - it's time to work on the servers. It's will be back in service soon.

ANY business as big as the USPS should be able to upgrade and do maintenance without any down time.

We use USPS and their tracking app regularly with few problems, in fact a good part of out livelihood depends on it. We don't do packages so I can't speak to that but when it comes to overnight letters they are reliable and often outperform FedEx. The fact that this downtime is an issue for discussion is testimony to the fact it generally works as it should, this despite being hobbled by their bosses in Congress.

We depend on USPS and believe me we'd be hollering loudest if things didn't work.

I've found that their tracking is only useful when delivering to a business. When delivering to a home, they might not register a delivery for a couple of days after the package was received.

Also, unlike FedEx, their guaranteed next day by 10:30am delivery is almost always late (for which they provide a full refund, so that part's kind of nice). FedEx priority is reliably received by 10:am.

Amazon told me that delivery was delayed in my area due to the weather. USPS showed up today — a day early, on a Sunday to boot — with four Amazon packages. It seems the only constant in shipping is YMMV.

(Why they sent four separate packages is another matter. I guess they are the logistics experts.)

USPS does a outstanding job.
For around 50cents they will take my letter from NY to LA - no stipulations.
That service is a huge bargain.
