i am heading from nyc to morgantown wv.

i will be based out of morgantown wv for about a week.

at the moment, i have no flexible time for the drive to morgantown but once there i might have hours at a stretch.

any suggestions as to what to see/what to do?

i have been to morgantown several times.

i even made the drive from nyc to morgantown via the backroads on my motorcycle.

i do know that the fog in the morning can be lovely.

i am packing a nikon d750, 24-120/4 mid zoom and 50/1.8 prime along with a tripod.

any and all thoughts are appreciated.

thumbs up.

No ideas on photos, but definitely worth a trip to Berkely Springs, WV--1930's municipal spa, many masseurs in the town, good restaurants and quaint shops. Many good B&Bs.

It's about a three hour drive from Mtown to Point Pleasant, WV.
You could search for Mothman wink smiley

The search engine that doesn't track you.

If you take US Rt 19 you can continue for another 2 hours to gawk at the majesty of the New River Gorge bridge. Honestly, I'd just skip Morgantown and explore Pittsburgh for a week.

Wikipedia
The New River Gorge Bridge is a steel arch bridge 3,030 feet (924 m) long over the New River Gorge near Fayetteville, West Virginia, in the Appalachian Mountains of the eastern United States. With an arch 1,700 feet (518 m) long, the New River Gorge Bridge was for many years the world's longest single-span arch bridge;[4][5] it is now the fifth longest. Part of U.S. Route 19, its construction marked the completion of Corridor L of the Appalachian Development Highway System. The bridge is crossed by an average of 16,200 motor vehicles per day.[1]

The roadway of the New River Gorge Bridge is 876 feet (267 m) above the New River.[5] The New River Gorge Bridge is one of the highest vehicular bridges in the world, and is currently the third highest in the United States. In 2005, the structure gained nationwide attention when the US Mint issued the West Virginia state quarter with the bridge depicted on one side. In 2013, the bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Wife is from nearby, and of course she went to school at WVU. Cooper's Rock is nearby... can be scenic. Been a long time since I went there though. Other than that, can't recommend much. I hate going there in winter.

Fallingwater is a superb idea, if it is en route.

My impression of driving parts of Rt 19 and I-79 in WV was that the fact that they were able to build these roads in this terrain was just incredible.

if you are traveling more south of Morgantown, take the highway that connects to the east, built not long ago. sorry, blanking on it but goes through strip mine country; it's a very interesting sight.

that would be I-68. It only gets interesting (IMHO) once it enters Maryland.

Further south, and it was a state highway. Looking at a map, maybe SR 48?

Lock your car doors. Know the battery your car takes in case a junkie boosts it.

Yes, I would agree to do a tour at Falling Water - [fallingwater.org]

My wife and I went there in 2018 and are planning to go back this Fall. You can take photos of the exterior but not inside.

Also, along the way is The Flight 93 Memorial

Is it too late to turn around?

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.
