We might use 5 or 6 AAA's a year, not even worth it for rechargeables.

I have eneloops too. Well, the Amazon and Ikea brands anyway. 4 young kids keep me in dead batteries....

I don't know what the shelf life of these AAAs is, but the last few would probably have less juice than the first.

But the 1.5v vs 1.2V will make a difference in some devices.

Curious how people feel about rechargeable these days? Which ones? My son is diabetic (T1D) and his PDM that controls his insulin use two AAA batteries. So, it might be worth it to grab some rechargeable batteries (AAA and AA batteries).

I've had some eneloop batteries as well as their knock offs from amazon and ikea for awhile and I think they work great and hold a charge well when they are sitting in a drawer. In your case I'd definitely have some backups of regular alkaline batteries though.
