Fresh Install of Catalina, Mail App is very unstable

I just nuked and paved 2012 MacMini with Catalina.

I did use my Apple ID, I did not yet connect my gmail account.

I click on an email link, Mail.app opens and tells me the upgrade failed. I started the mail.app again and I go through several messages 2-3 times and eventually it opens and it shows me my iCloud mail (which only has about a dozen email).

Is mail.app that buggy? I am hesitant to connect it to gmail for now. I would like to know if it works to not first.

No firsthand experience here, but I've heard as much about the Catalina Apple Mail app.

That's a real shame, considering how much better I found the Sierra version of Mail to be over the Mavericks version -- it sucks to think Apple regressed so badly.

It is what it is.

OK so maybe I have a hint of what happened. I also logged in into gmail and then I wanted to use Mail.app, after I did the quit and restart dance several times and eventually quit, I went back to Safari, I had several tabs open. When I went to the gmail tab, there was a dialog box asking me if I want to allow OS X Apps to use this gmail account.

Maybe that is why it said it cannot upgrade the first timed it quit another once or twice after that.

Nope. However, gmail is that irritating.

Wait 'till you notice that they removed the columns feature in Mail.

Kinda reminds me of Apple's mouse designs over the years: "We've made the most esthetically pleasing device ever!"

I love Apple, but fuuuu, sometimes you wonder if they're high as kites.

Correct. But even worse, there's no more thin vertical line dividing each column. So there is no way to adjust the width of each column, and b) no way to decide which columns show up.

It's stupid beyond belief.

so you are locked in a certain layout? is the layout the same for all machines? what a stupid GUI. Apple used to lead GUI development, now it seems like they try really hard the opposite, isn't it.
