overnight, the internal is 8G larger - wtf?

I just updated to HS, I wonder if Xcode updates (and expands) on it's own.
I dl'd Xcode for plist editor (which I use with QuickSilver once in a great while). I'm not a developer.

Can I remove some of the Xcode/Contents/Dev/Platforms?

In searching all the files on the internal, I find nothing suspect, at least as far as recent dates and sized greater than 1G.

The only things that comes close in size
Plex Media Server/Metadata (for LPs)
Pictures
iTunes metadata
Xcode

Booting from SSD?

Are you making Time Machine backups?

When you run an installer and periodically throughout the day, the OS will make snapshots. It's supposed to purge them as well, and this will free up considerable drive-capacity. It doesn't always purge them.

Run this in the Terminal:

tmutil listlocalsnapshots /
