Used car shopping - hybrid or not?

I'm looking at 8-10 yo Lexus RX's for about the same price. Should I be worried about the hybrid battery? Just stick with the RX350?
Unfortunately my mechanic is out sick for a month.

Any reason you're stuck on Lexus? A newer used Nissan Leaf can be had pretty cheap and it's full electric. Or a used Volt.

Neither of which compare to a Lexus RX.

Battery is proven tech, same system the Prius has had for many years.

MPG savings vs cost vs mileage would be a better dynamic.

Wifes coworker has a 60 mile freeway commute (ugh), with very little stop and go. Drives a corolla, prob gets 40. She was thinking about a new Prius, which could get 50-55 -- but the math didnt work out...

Over $400 a month in gas would go to maybe $300 + car payment.

She is going to order a model 3 instead.

It's the SUV I want. Lexus RX350 or Toyota Highlander. Or the hybrid version.

Same price? Get the hybrid. If it's a Toyota (Lexus) then the battery is the same Toyota reliability as other components.

Just so it’s a PHEV you’ll be happy.

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.

FWIW my parents have a hybrid highlander that’s about 10 years old and approaching 200k miles and it’ll likely last twice that despite my fathers temptation to replace it. All he’d get for his money is the new car smell.

If you like the car then go for it
