That is most definitely not a Pontiac Aztec

It isn't instantly noticeable but the side windows do no crank down - they slide horizontally. You have to look closely but you can see where the passenger window is squared off and split with an overlap.

And Racer, if it makes you feel better, it isn't an AMC Pacer either

You could get a Pacer with a V8.

You had me going until I noticed the rather enhanced booty on that thing. A little slimming in that area is needed.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

You could get a Pacer with a V8.

Or, you could retroactively find that AMC V8 in their wannabe hot rod...

though IIRC, the Pacer topped out w/ a 304 cu. in. V8, that was just a bored/stroked upgrade to the AMX's bottom of the line 290 from a few years earlier. The AMX topped out w/ a 390 before the 1970's gas crisis hit.

Beautiful car, but the windows need work.

The windows are the only thing I like about this car (Subaru SVX).

I loved the AMX. It was a great looking car and the bests looking one ever to come out of AMC. It wasn't a sports car but was a bit of a muscle car.

That's a beauty, Buzz, but my druthers would have been white with blue stripes.

Ask, and ye shall receive...

tho truth be told, I dated a real hottie in the mid 1970's that had the clone of the one I posted; white, w/ red stripes and tan interior..., and that *may*  have subtly influenced my choice. Certainly not more than 100% influence, nor less than 99.44% influence of that choice.

I have a thing for cars with curves. I really hate the boxy look, and especially the 'I'm a science fiction fighter spaceship' plastic bits on the rear of certain Japanese vehicles. WHY ???? I mean, okay, if they are legit fusion engines or afterburners I can handle it.

Yep, the beltline needs to either be flattened out in that area or the peak of the rear fender bulge extended forward so it is over the rear wheel well.

As far as AMX's go, I've always had a soft spot for the '71 models even though they're much less unique than the previous ones-

And yes, that's exactly the color I'd want one in.

Looking at a rear quarter view, it appears to have kind of proto-fins rather than bulbous rear fenders the OP photo suggests.

On another note, the grill seems to be missing on the car in the OP photo.

What the heck... ? I was going to say earlier that it looked like the designers were going to put fins on it but chickened out at the last minute and it turns out maybe so? dunno smiley

Seriously though, my WASG is that those "fender extensions" were added relatively late in development once it was realized that nothing past the bottom of the back window could be seen from the driver's seat.

Nor do I. The closest the French ever got that I'm aware of to tail fins was the Peugeot 404-

Yeah, I like the looks of the Lago, but I cringe when I think about how to get that thing worked on.

I'm pretty sure up here in the frozen tundra no one is qualified to work on such a fine machine.
