From my applications folder:

I don't remember having two apps. They both have a scan function.

I think the changed the name.

I know Sarcany recommends to remove it after scanning.

If it was two different apps on a PC, I would expect Malwarebytes to be a malware scanner, versus Anti-Malware being an app that installed, needed a restart, and then tried to protect against malware getting a foothold.

The "Anti-Malware" version is their branded adaptation of AdwareMedic. A stand-alone app that hasn't been updated in awhile. It's still pretty good, but it can miss some recent adware/malware in its scans and it's very crash-prone under Mojave. May not run at all under Catalina.

The other one is the recent revision that installs a bunch of components throughout the OS. I'm wary of apps that require low-level access to run and install undocumented components throughout the OS. However, given the growing threat of Mac malware, I no longer recommend uninstalling it after the first scan, at least not for most users. If you've lapsed once and installed malware accidentally, you're likely to do so again. Malware makers are getting more and more devious and it's harder to avoid.

I think if spammers and malware coders were all taken out into the streets and given Mogadishu Neck Ties, the problem would dwindle.

Snark aside, I have found that MWB does more than 'nothing,' in my hands-on experience with many users' Macs.

It finds and removes crapware pretty well.
