Anyone use an 'Indoor Herb Garden' - AeroGarden, VegeBox, etc.?

Anyone have experience with indoor gardening. I'm thinking of growing basil,
parsley, and maybe some bib lettuce & tiny tomatoes. I've got a counter space of
18w X 8d X 18h, any of the retail kits would fit.
Saw an episode on AskTOH about indoor hydroponic mini-garden.
However, the 'Click & Grow' model they featured is $200; too much $$ 4me!

I'm looking @ Aerogarden & Vegebox units under $100. Main disadvantage I see
with Aerogarden is the seed pods are proprietary where Vegebox can use any seeds.

Any advice or tips appreciated!

(All the YT vids are either patched together, messy kit or ads for the big $$ brands.)

This is the VegeBox:

The search engine that doesn't track you.

You can get the same growth using a grow light for a fraction of the cost.

Strawberry Pot - $15/$20
Grow light - $20
potting soil - $5

About once a year I buy a basil plant from the supermarket for about £1.50. They quite happily survive on the kitchen windowsill and I regularly snip off a 2" shoot and put it in water where after about 3-4 weeks it has sent out enough roots to pot up on its own. The original plant grows in a medium that has very little nutrients (the shops want it to die so you buy another) but once it starts to fade I chop it down to about 1" and put the whole thing in a bigger pot with fresh compost.

The wife wanted an aero garden for Xmas. It works well - except for the oregano. She’s happy
