The Royal Caribbean Cruise case...
Salvatore Anello, the grandfather charged in the death of his 18-month-old granddaughter Chloe,
who fell from a cruise ship, will change his plea to guilty, according to his attorney.
The charge, negligent homicide is a misdemeanor in Puerto Rico where he was to stand trial.

The family maintains their lawsuit against Royal Caribbean for an unspecified
amount of damages will continue.

It looks like it’s been agreed to just close the book on a very sad and tragic happening.

Buzzfeed
”I took a plea deal today to try to help end part of this nightmare for my family, if possible,” Anello, of Valparaiso, Indiana, said in a statement. “The support they continue to give me has been beyond overwhelming and I can’t tell you how grateful I am for them..."

"[An attorney for the family, Michael Winkleman, announced ] ... This decision was an incredibly difficult one for Sam and the family, but because the plea agreement includes no jail time and no admission of facts, it was decided the plea deal is in the best interests of the family so that they can close this horrible chapter ..."

I hope the state is pleased that it's gotten its pound of flesh. Can we move on and let the family live their lives now?

His actions had consequences in this awful situation. The family still has a pending lawsuit against the cruise line so this isn’t over yet.

Yes, it sure had consequences. A child died and a family was left with incredible, immeasurable grief.

Here's hoping that despite no evidence to this end, the criminal prosecution of this old man (unquestionably wracked by unfathomable grief, regret, and horror himself) will somehow manage to save the life of a toddler some day. I don't see it, but what do I know?

A child died at another person's hands; I think it matters how you frame it.
