Try the home brew method first to see if you like it

I hate to ask, but do these eliminate the need for TP?

From what I've read, it can cut it up to 2/3rds.

I started thinking about one when they were on sale for $200 at Costco. I decided to try a simple $30 one, and it works great!
I was worried about the water not being heated--no problem.
If you get the heated ones-remember you have to have an electrical outlet nearby.
Here is the one I got-Love it!
$29.99 Bidet

Just go for it and get one of those fancy Japanese toilets that have more controls on them than Captain Kirk's seat on the Enterprise.

Start with one of those like Ken Sp. recommended. It's really quite nice and can be installed with a minimum of fuss.

If you like it you can decide whether to upgrade to one with more features, such as heated water, heated seat, memory, adjustable sprayer, air dryer, remote, etc. This was our strategy and it worked great. The unheated one is just fine since the water coming in is at room temperature, though the fancier one is a little more luxurious. TP seems so primitive after you have one of these.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

My wife had rotator cuff surgery two weeks ago, so I bought the Bio Bidet 6800 from Costco, on sale for $200. I did have to install an electrical outlet, but it was pretty easy to run a wire from the light switch.

The bidet is great - heated seat, warmed water, fan, and deodorizer, among other features.

I used a bidet-seat (as opposed to a full on separate appliance bidet) a few years ago in Thailand... I liked it.

Last year, I got a cheap bidet add-on kit for my toilet. About $35 on Amazon.
I freakin' LOVE IT.
OK, during mid-winter, the water is a little cold... a heated model WOULD be nice, but I don't have power or hot water near enough to my toilet to make that simple... so, the el-cheapo is just fine for now.

One uses WAY less toilet paper, and you start getting used to being (not to put too fine a point on it) "really clean" back yonder.

First few times, it's a little disconcerting... water shootin' into the region, and all, but you adjust quickly and pretty darn quick, you won't how folks get along without one.

My next round of home upgrades is going to put power next to my toilet, so I can upgrade.

It's actually pretty easy to do if you have a light switch within 4 feet or so of your toilet. I wired into that (the bidet is not controlled by the light switch) and dropped some Romex about 3' straight down towards the baseboard. Installed a GFCI outlet there to plug the bidet into. The bidet has a holding tank to heat the water, so you do not need a hot water source.

Well... the wiring in my house has seen more than it's share of "handyman" fixes already. It really needs a few things unf*ckered, and some new "home-runs" from the breaker panel. For example, that bathroom, and the bedroom behind it, share the same circuit as half the kitchen. And the fridge. All on one breaker. The miracle is, it doesn't pop as often as you'd think!

Doesn't the water shoot up through your thighs? Don't you have a large area that is sopping wet?

Nope... it's a well-aimed stream.
And, the toilet paper (even in reduced quantity) does quite nicely to dry things.
Seriously... Get one of the $34 Amazon ones, install with a crescent wrench, and give it a go. If you like it, get one of the ones that heat the seat, heat the water, have massage functions, and a joystick for "precision aiming". And no, I'm not kidding about any of those features!

Can the $34 ones correct their aim? I'm not considering the electric fancy ones.

Mine can be "tweaked" a bit... but honestly, a little butt wiggle is all the "aim correction" I've needed.
There are a number of models, I'm sure there are ones with more adjustability.... You may need to pay up to $50 for one.
One of the best home comfort investments I've EVER made.

I had a plug-in seat for a few years and really liked it then when we moved to a new home 2 years ago and put in a master bath, I went with an integrated toilet / bidet system: TOTO Vespin 1.28 GPF C200 Two Piece Elongated Toilet - MW4742044CEFG-01. $866.88

This was the highest seat I could find w/ bidet and its a great combo. Really love the heated heat and heated water is a must though I’m not really a fan of the Vespin model — it’s kind of hard to clean (has a ridge around the bowl).

If you’ve got a toilet you like, just get a seat. My $.02

Heated seat, warm water, deodorizing can, adjustable spray - you should consider getting a fancy, electric one. Great investment.

Lol. That should be deodorizing FAN, though I guess can works also.

For high scoring, get one with AR aiming and Hyper-Blast.

And remote control of the water and temp to surprise friends and family!

This is a repost, but it still cracks me up to watch, and just in case CJ missed it the first time.

The only really annoying bit is Girl George.

I wish they'd used more subjects and more editing.
