12-Core NVMe Mojave splendor

My latest Mac Pro 5,1 rehab is almost finished, still migrating data to Mojave.
All I can say is it 'hands-down' blows the doors off of my 6-core.
Dual Xeon X5670 (12-cores, 95w TPD), 48GB (6x8 1333), NVMe SSD, HD7850 vid,
and USB-3 ($9 PCIe card).
Including the $200 craigslist cMP (w/ Apple KB & Mouse), the whole project cost
approximately $425 and there's plenty of stripped parts to sell off.

The Xeons, RAM, & flashed HD7850 were ebay bargains; while the NVMe card was
$8 @ bezos warehouse! The ADATA 512 SSD was a Newegg sale item for $58.
$10 new is still a bargain:

imho, not too bad for an Eleven Year Old computer old fogey smiley

You got a 12-core 5,1 on CL for $200? Wow. They're still fetching over $1,000 down here. I got mine 4 years ago fully loaded for $1K, and I thought that was a bargain. Haven't gone the NVME route yet though. But I've got a HD7950 and a USB3 card in it. And I got a 6Gb card that holds my SSD.

It was 8-core 20GB when I got it but it had four 500GB HDDs, an Apple HD4870, and
like new Apple Aluminum KB (A1243) & Mighty Mouse (A1152).
Thought it was a good deal...

But can you play dark castle on it?

All I ever really needed to know, I learned from watching Star Trek.

Yeah, that was a good deal. When I was looking, I was trying to find a cheap 4,1 with dual processors that I could flash to be a 5,1 and then add the 12 processors from ebay. But I found the 5,1 loaded with RAM and an SSD (which were expensive back then) for about the same price as it would have cost me to do on my own. I've been happy with it.

NVME would jump your drive from 500 MBs to 3000.

Which is nice but may or may not be the main bottleneck of that system if there's plenty of RAM.
