Spotted this plane at the local airport while out for a bike ride a few days ago.

iPhone 6s photo

Did a little research and discovered it's a Forest Service Smokejumper plane, used to get parachuting firefighters into remote areas. It had been raining and there were NO fires in the area.

The Short C-23 Sherpa is a small military transport aircraft built by Short Brothers. It was designed to operate from unpaved runways and make short takeoff and landings (STOL). It features a large squared fuselage with a full-width rear cargo door/ramp.

There is a blue one at local airport in summer . Also a rappelling base . One of the single seat fast response borate planes was there last week. I think it has to do with their contracts that a plane shows up . Hills are covered with snow.

That plane reminds me of the German Dornier DO-28 that the US Army and
Air America use to fly.

My Pop was a waist gunner on a B-17 like this during WWII. This is one of few still flying - Liberty Belle. Taken at the Hillsboro Airport near Portland, OR
