STAT: PC Lappy Recco <$400? What to Avoid?

Wife and her co-worker have an admin who is forced to work at office b/c admin is not provided with a laptop. Wife and co-worker are looking at buying a cheap but decent laptop for admin so she doesn't have to be exposed to Covid.

Found this: [www.costco.com]

$400, 14", 4/128/Windoze 10

They work with legal docs in Windows. Macs are too $$, PLUS Office doesn't always translate evenly, very important for legal docs to look exact same at all times. They are state employees, so no flexibility for using Chromebooks or google docs. It's Windows or no soup for you! judge smiley

That HP looks decent, but they'd like to of course keep the price down if possible. Are all the new Winbloze machines like the Macs now in that you cannot upgrade SSD? There was one with a 64gb that I'd think would still work, just curious if all lappies have gone unfriendly to upgrades.

Any others you'd recommend? Brands to avoid? Gonna check out MicroCenter also.

The Dell Outlet might be worthwhile to check out:

Agree & add you might want to check Blinq.
I got a great deal on a loaded HP from them a few years ago.

Just be aware that in some areas, demand for low end machines is high for kids in school doing home learning. Newegg has a pretty good selection, just type refurb in the search bar and click on Laptops/Notebooks if this link does not work. You can choose lots of search terms: 6th, 7th, 8th gen Intel, and price ranges.

I use to always go with dellrefurbished.com but the last couple came off ebay. The low end latitudes (look for 7450 or 5450 depending on screen size needs) are about $80 cheaper than direct from dell and get it from a storefront with good feedback, just like new.
