Vinegar, the next 'shortage' item??
Posted by: MrNoBody

Main ingredient: 180 Proof Grain Alcohol which is now all going to sanitizer & medical production.

Allegedly folks are now hoarding white vinegar for use as a sanitizer.

MrNo,

Nope. White vinegar doesn't cut it. Although vinegar can be used for cleaning and as an antibacterial to a degree, it isn't effective against covid-19. This is a comprehensive searchable list of items that are effective against Covid-19 from the EPA:

If you're looking to make bread, you can make your own sourdough starter from just flour and water. There's lots of instructions online about making sourdough bread.

I'm guessing most people don't make a distinction between "Clean" (Free from obvious dirt, grime, and streaks) and "Sanitized" (Free ((-ish)) from bacteria and viruses).

I've been preaching for years, mostly to deaf ears, that Clorox Cleaner appears to do a better job of cleaning stuff than it actually does because it bleaches the dirt, grime, schmutz, etc. white instead of removing it as genuine cleaners like Formula 409 and Fantastic do.

I did not say it would, it's as Thrift Store Scott noted. Folks do not understand
the difference between cleaners, sanitizers, and anti-virals.
So they now are scooping up vinegar when the other options are exhausted.

However, I'd wager these same folks can name all of the Kardashian family members.

I know you didn't say it. I said it because it hadn't been mentioned by anyone yet.

Unexpectedly did stock up on vinegar and Frank's just before the pandemic went wild.
Mrs. Buzz soaks her hands and feet in vinegar, so we buy it in 2 giant bottle packs, and just reloaded. We're also hot sauce fiends, and Frank's is a regular part of our ass-flaming arsenal, and scored a 2 giant bottle pack of Original Red Hot; we were already well stocked on 12oz bottles of Frank's Extra Hot, and a few other flavors, plus bottles of at least a couple of dozen of other eclectic hot sauces.

Including:
Juanita's Pico Pica Hot Sauce
Juanita's Pico Pica Taco Sauce
Juanita's Pico Pica Green Taco Sauce
Sontava Habanero Hot Sauce
Sontava XXX Habanero Hot Sauce
Sontava Mango Habanero Hot Sauce
Marie Sharp's (several flavors)
Truff White
Truff Black
El Yucateca Habanero
El Yucateca Extra Hot Habanero
Faraon Habanero Pepper
La Victoria Salsa Brava Hot Sauce
La Victoria Taco Sauce
Mexico Lindo Habanero Green
Mexico Lindo Habanero Red
Crystal Hot Sauce (Green Top)
Crystal Garlic Hot Sauce (Gold Top)
Red Rooster Hot Sauce
Tabasco (a few flavors)
Cholula Hot Sauce
Valentina Black Label
Tapatio Hot Sauce
Louisiana Original Hot Sauce
Louisiana Cravin' Cajun Hot Sauce
D.L. Jardine's Texas Champagne
Sambal Oelek Chili Hot Sauce
Sriracha (Hoy Fung, and a few more)
Ass Kickin' Hot Sauces (Cajun, Horseradish, Garlic & several Pepper flavors)
Williams Sonoma Hot Sauce
and a few more....

Freezers......the hoarders bought so much extra food that they ran out of space to store it, so they went out and bought up all the available freezers. Idiots!

I suppose had there been any plague-carrying rat fleas clinging to said coins, the vinegar would have drowned them... Either that, or the fleas would have jumped to safety on the nearest warm body available.

Bill,

That's the thing. Plague was a bacteria. Not a virus. Vinegar is better than nothing for bacteria but not the virus. Vinegar isn't going to do anything to protect or disinfect for the virus.
