2015 imac i7/10.14.2/40gb/3tb/Mojave-very long time to awake

for the past week, it has been very difficult to wake up my 2015 imac i7/40gb/3tb/ running Mojave 10.14.2.

i touch the wired Amazon mouse. nothing.

i tap a key on the wired Mac keyboard. nothing.

what used to be instantaneous, now takes 10-15-30seconds.

i don't really mind the wait but i wonder why.

any and all thoughts are appreciated.

stay well.

WHY are you not using Mojave 10.14.6???

Try that!

10.14.2 has been stable for me.

frankly, i just didn't want to mess with what works during this COVID madness because i'm sheltering in place 4hrs from my home in nyc and i don't need another hassle if updating the mac OS on my imac goes sideways.

well, i guess that came out fast and furious.

the whiney tone was not my intention.

mea culpa.

thanks for your suggestion.

stay well.

I agree - if you're really worried set up a bootable external copy that you can run if the @#$%& hits the fan

Not enough RAM. =)

Assuming you have restarted...

-try a safe reboot (hold down shift key, then reboot normally)

-do you have any other USB devices plugged in? Try unplugging them to see if it makes a difference.

WOW!!

I remembered having this problem with my 2015 imac (middle of the line i5) and I just couldn't remember how I fixed it. Well, I have your answer!

I just did a search and found this note I posted that got ZERO responses:

My imac has LOTS of stuff attached to it and when it suffered from delayed wake from sleep, I was just too lazy to go through everything required to find out exactly what the problem was. Sometimes it would take close to 2min to wake (for the screens to illuminate - I can hear drives spinning up immediately.)

This was happening in 10.11 and persisted when I upgraded to 10.14, but I ran the 10.14.4 updater a week or so ago and my wake from sleep issue is gone. It's been YEARS.

Folks,

The key is something changed!!!! It was not taking long to wake and now it is. Why? What changed?

The OP doesn't need OS upgrades or more RAM.

The Safe Boot suggestion (Shift key at boot sound) is a good one.

How full is the hard drive?

Have you added a peripheral recently?

What apps were updated recently or added recently (just before the wakeup delay started)?

I've found that Go for Gmail.app doesn't play well with Catalina in my iMac. I got rid of it and got rid of occasional KPs.

I have that same 2015 iMac but am running Catalina. I never used to sleep my Macs but have been doing so recently, not that they all are running SSDs r Fusion drives. The iMac will wake by touching the power button but not by the keyboard taps or mouse wiggles. I don't know when this started (which OS). Maybe there's something wrong with my iMac, but that's what works.

Hope this helps.

Please report back with your cure, whatever it is. Inquiring minds like to know.smiley-signs003

Gonna ask my Mother if that offer to slap

Shot in the dark here, did the macOS Upgrade include any Firmware Updates?
If so, an SMC Reset followed by a PRAM reset may help.

Safe Boot wouldn't hurt either (flush caches).
