Pantry find: Is it toxic?

I remembered a box of 'Costco' canned Mandarin orange segments was in the very back of the cupboard .

I thought it was high time to polish off the last can.

Pulling the box out, black goo oozed out and dripped onto the floor.

I put the box and offending can (last one) in the garbage, and monitored the goo on the floor for a bit.

After a few minutes of it not moving and showing no signs of life, I cleaned it up, and washed up.

Out of curiosity, was there any dangerous or deadly bacteria to be wary of?

I did spray the floor with some Lysol.

There's still room in the garbage so I didn't take it outside.

Will death ease on down my lungs in the middle of the night?

LOL! Can't predict what may happen to you, but whatever it is, probably won't be the fault of the spoiled oranges.

I hear that mandarin orange goo cures covid19.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

I had a recent similar experience with an ancient can of pineapple. I survived.

Edit: as n=1, my experience is fairly meaningless - but this is MRF.

I wouldn't eat it.... (and that should tell you something!).

Lysol probably took care of anything nasty.

I hear that mandarin orange goo cures covid19.

Only if you inject it. It only takes a minute. One minute.

I thought this was going to be an interesting post, when I first read it, I missed the 'r' in the first word.

Well, not wasting the oranges never crossed my mind.

I should get an account on the Twitter, so I can post 'I think I had COVID but Mandarin Orange Black Goo cured it!'

But it'd take me a good while to make so more.

By that time there might be a proper vaccine.
