If you show someone just 1 episode of all of Star Trek, what would it be?
Posted by: pRICE cUBE

Criteria:
Episode not movie
1 episode, no to be continued 2 or 3 part
No season long story arc
Any of the Trek series are eligible

I am leaning toward my two favorite DS9 episodes but I would likely go with Pale Moonlight,

In the Pale Moonlight [www.imdb.com]
To save the Federation in a critical scheme, Sisko comes to realize that he must violate its fundamental principles to do so.

The Visitor [www.imdb.com]
Melanie, an aspiring writer, wants to know why Jake Sisko stopped writing at 40. Jake tells how his father died in an accident and then suddenly reappeared.

Something from TNG. There are so many good stand alone episodes here that I really don't want to name just one.

I like Star Trek but don't usually get involved in ST discussions/disputes. However, I recall exactly where I was when I saw this episode of DS9 - January 1996, probably its first rerun. I was familiar with the series premise but hadn't paid much attention to DS9 at that point. I distinctly recall feeling after I saw that episode that it was probably the best science fiction story I had ever seen. Thought about it for weeks afterwards.

Those are my final 2 but I would go with In the Pale Moonlight if I had to pick one right now.

From TNG;
The Inner Light

From DS9, Price already stole my answer - those two episodes.
If forced to pick another from DS9, and the person I'm showing it to is already a fan of TOS, then Trials and Tribble-ations.

There are a few others, but I'd have to look up episode names.

I liked the big planet eating thing from the original show - that was fun! Sorry, I don't know show titles.

DS9 Duet. A very, very heavy episode though.

This one for fun:

I think city on the edge of forever wins for just general genre exposure.

The Doomsday Machine, Season 2 Episode 6.

That is an iconic episode from my childhood, which is evidence of its engaging power. I didn't care about arcs and character development when I was 10. It was just a good story. I have a soft spot for the The Corbomite Maneuver for the same reason.

How much Trek knowledge do we assume they have?

For anyone not already immersed, I'd want them to see TNG "Lower Decks" first. (At least.)

For me, TOS all the way. "The Paradise Syndrome" is right up there, but, I liked damn near all of them. It's hard to pick just one.

Later series Treks, not so much.

My favorite episode is “Movie Tonight,” aka the "My Darling Clementine" episode from Season 5.

Or ... I may be thinking of a different show.

Tritto.

While other time travel Trek episodes are entertaining, this is the granddaddy of them all. The scene of this episode that just gets me every time is the one where Edith Keeler assesses Kirk and Spock: [www.youtube.com]

... just everything about this episode, from the acting, concept, plot, humor/tragedy, pacing, direction, and especially the music, it's QUINTESSENTIAL Trek.

There are "adventure" episodes

and there are "character" episodes. Which would she prefer?

Adventure:
TOS Doomsday
TOS Mirror Mirror
TNG Yesterday's Enterprise

Character
TOS City of The Edge of Forever
TNG Brothers
TNG Measure of A Man
TNG Inner Light
DS9 Pale Moonlight
DS9 Far Beyond The Stars
