To invoke the Hide on First Page checkbox, select the Format tab (the one with the paintbrush).
Click above the header (or below the footer) so nothing is selected.
This will make the right pane show preferences for the page, instead of options for paragraph style.
Posting because it took me a little bit of fiddling, someone may be looking for it too.

Ha, I remember having the same search frustration.

I think it's called "Hide on the first page of Section" which requires setting up a section for that first page. Is that how you have it, rich-in-distress?

That’s how it’s written.
But one section exists by default (I don’t think you can erase it), so nothing to reset unless you make use of different sections.
So then you have the option to show or hide the first number for the new section, and have the page# continue from the last section, have a different count, format, etc.
