HomePod vs. Bose

It seems to finally be time to upgrade our old (30-pin) Bose SoundDock (kept useful with a Auris Skye wifi adapter that no longer works).

I reached out to Bose about any type of trade-in/upgrade program and was offered a Home Speaker 500 for $225 (normally $299). I'm looking at that but wanted to compare it to a HomePod as well.

Personally, I think they are both over-priced (as are most Bose products), but my wife likes Bose products (she has a variety) and wants a good quality speaker for our kitchen. I see our sponsor has the HomePod for $220, so the cost is pretty much the same.

I'd prefer something that connects over wifi and not bluetooth. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Edit: Just saw this thread from a couple days ago.

I've never been impressed with Bose quality sound - but I may be in the minority. We have a HomePod in the kitchen. The sound is adequate (again, my criteria may differ). The advantages are seamless integration with the rest of the Apple ecosystem and Siri. Though, for the latter, 99% of its usage is 'Hey Siri, set a 10 minute timer'.

Rumor has a new, lower priced (but lesser sound quality) HomePos real soon.

The son of a friend of ours just got a Cotodama lyric speaker. Sound was incredible on it. Unfortunately, it costs $1,900.

If I didn't already have a HomePod, I would have tried that $99 Bose.

It would have been easy enough to return it if I wasn't happy with the sound.

For some time now, I've learn to manage expectations and not always demand absolutes.

I think the $99 IKEA Sonos wifi speaker linked in that last thread would do well in your application.

I might be biased, but I'm liking the HomePods a lot at the right price point smiling smiley They sound excellent, and look better than the Bose for sure.

What do you consider the right price point? I see y’all just raised prices on the non-retail models.

I just got one on sale from BestBuy for $199.00 + tax & free delivery. Really nice system that integrates nicely with all my other Apple trinkets.
