bottom bracket maintenence

My 2008 CAAD 9.6 has an OEM BC1.37x24 ROAD Hollowtech2 BB.
Pretty sure this is where a grindy rubbing creak is coming from. Changed the pedals. The creak is on the down stroke of the left side.

Is this something I want to DIY? The part is $21ish.
I don't have any specific tools, juts the general stuff and a stand.
Any reason to use a different BB?

I am a casual rider 60 mi/wk or so.

Or am I better off at the LBS? The bike forums seem very mixed.

looks easy enough but you need the tool to tighten it. Up to you.

The creaking might be due to play or misadjustment. It might be due to slop where the crank engages the spindle, or you might have a bearing going bad. If you grab the pedal end of the left crank arm and wiggle it, can you feel a little play? I’d probably disassemble and inspect at least. Creaking is sometimes due to loose chainring bolts so check those.

IDK for sure but the SS could use plenty of SAE API EP 140W although I'd stick with GL-4. Just make sure that what you use meets SAE J306, IMHO anyway.
