Lord, how I love John Oliver

The clarity, intelligence and humor of his HBO show never cease to amaze and delight me. I don’t want this to get moved to the political side, so please note he covers a wide range of topics outside of the strictly political arena.

I prefer right-wing humorists like, uh, well, uh, ...let me get back to you. (There’s gotta be at least one...)

His delivery got on my last nerve by the second episode.

A little too high mean volume level for my tasted.

And I'd never let him on my lawn!

Somehow you need to try and get past it -- because his shows are very well done and informative. They give a hard look into many important things -- some are definitely at the crux of our current crisis(es).

Even if you thought the views were skewed to one side, theres so much information to digest that it makes it easier to do your own research the other way... without just a blanket google search.

I never miss him, and many of his segments have made me think harder on some things as well.

Really, I don't.

Not all that much of an audiophile, audio is still an important factor, and certain audio characteristics are unbearable to me.

It's like listening to bad headphones - make it stop!

The short segments on Stewart's show were just tolerable.

But not a whole show.

I certainly don't begrudge anybody who likes and watches his show.

Perhaps closed captioning, then.

There’s a big difference in the quality of his shows whether he’s got plenty of material to work with or not (there’s been plenty for a while now). If he doesn’t, the stretching and filler can get a little painful.

I vote for John Oliver. Smart as a whip. Just like John Stewart. Quick wit as well.

Unfortunately, like a lot of comedians, he takes 20 minutes to say what only needs 5 minutes.

Yeah, If I had one complaint, its the filler... takes a walk sometimes.

His at-home show is one of the best IMHO - WAY better than Colbert for example.

Apples and oranges.
Colbert is an every night talk show where Oliver is a once deeper dive into mostly one subject.
Also, HBO vs CBS

I like both, but they are different beasts.

Agreed. But the production quality is not what I was talking about. JO is comfortable walking to a wall/unresponsive audience, SC not so much.

I think I recall he quipped being a stand-up comedian in London was good prep.

Can't remember the name, but I used to listen to a podcast he and another guy did. Thought it was great.
