There is nothing more I can add here than was covered in the subject line.

Knowing Apple, they'll just recycle them as best they can be recycled.

They could probably sell them by the pallet to refurbishers, but that doesn't seem like an Apple thing to do.

They've had a recycling program for a while now. if your computer was eligible for any kind of trade in value you could still mail it in to be recycled responsibly.

Apple can reward you for being part of their ecosystem by paying you to recycle the device you just spent a few years - 3 to 5 or 8 years - using. You get a $100 or $200 discount.

That explains the lowball, if they are trashing and not getting any other value out of them.

By the way, I'll match Apple's offer plus 10% for anyone looking to recycle!

The statement on the Trade In site states this:

Quote

You may be done with your device, but chances are it still has more to give. If it’s in good shape, we’ll help it go to a new owner. If not, we’ll send it to our recycling partner, so we can save more precious materials and take less from the earth.

Doesn't quite jibe with that 4 year old report linked from ABC News.
