Anyone have experience with Gazelle for buying an iPhone?

Looking to replace my phone but not interested in paying $1k. Anyone have experience or opinions about Gazelle.com? They offer a 30 point check and do not sell phones with bad iMEI.

Why You Should Buy a Used iPhone from Gazelle
Picking the right iPhone for your lifestyle can seem like a daunting task, but we’re here to help. Gazelle offers a large inventory of used iPhones that range in carrier, model, storage size, color and condition. While having a brand-new device seems ideal, you could be saving hundreds of dollars on a certified pre-owned iPhone. Every device that enters our facilities must pass a rigorous 30-point Gazelle inspection before it’s placed on our site. Picking a used iPhone also means that you’re not only saving money, but also giving a device a second chance at life and helping to limit electronic waste!

Swappa might be better for phones.

Swappa might be better for phones.

Do they offer the same kind of function checks?

Swappa is a little different from Gazelle in that they don't warehouse the phones. They are more of a clearing house for sellers and buyers.

What steps does Swappa take to review and approve a listing?

When a listing is reviewed for approval here on Swappa, our moderation team runs through a number of crucial checks to help ensure a smooth transaction when the listing is purchased. This includes a number steps involving:

Verification photos
ESN/serial number checks
Criteria compliance
Seller history

Although we review nearly every listing in our marketplace, we do know that a listing's details can change after it's approved, so please be sure to take advantage of our flagging feature if you think a listing may need to be manually reviewed again by our team.

We also advise potential buyers to closely review any listings they're interested in to ensure that it meets their needs. Unfortunately, even with our review process, we can never truly guarantee that a seller will fulfill a sale. However, these review steps help prevent many failed sales by keeping poor sellers and garbage products out of our marketplace.

I bought several iPhone 7 and a 6s late last year from Gazelle for the sole purpose of trading them in to Sprint to get new iPhone 11s. I picked the cheapest phones I could get (i.e. lowest quality and smallest memory). They all came looking very good. No scratches, dents, or dings. They included a charging cord and block. No problems at all.

That's interesting.

Gazelle tells you they don't want one's chargers or charging cables.

So they must supply new stuff to help with the New to You appeal.

What kind of phone do you want?

Inferring by your $1K price, you mean an 11 Pro? Why not an SE, or even better, an 11?

Neither of those are anywhere near $1K...

While I would love an iPhone 11 Pro, I can’t see going past $500.

SE is $400. Same chip as an 11Pro, so no sacrafice on speed or the abilty for it to run iOS versions far into the future.

If you use the phone a lot... then Id go with the XR -- way better battery and much larger screen... $600 new... but gotta be deals on used...

You arent with a major carrier to do the $XX a month option?

pRICE is a photographer, I'm assuming he'd want the best camera that is available in a phone. SE and XR fall short in that category.

I've looked at Swappa, but I've done local Craigslist. Got an 8+ soon after they came out for a good price.

They were not the Apple block and cable but their own, with the Gazelle logo.

With a $500 budget it doesn’t matter — photographer or not.

Perhaps an X?

If you want the better camera while staying under your budget then you're limited to the Xs.

An 11 is going to be more than $500 unless maybe you get a used one in horrible shape. So that is the answer to your why not an 11 question.

The XS plus seems to be in my range. If the 11S or whatever the next phone is came out, the 11 wild probably move closer to my range.

Don't forget about Apple's iPhone compare tool: [www.apple.com]

The iPhone refurbs Apple currently sells include the 8, X and all versions of the Xs, and they recently added the Xr. The Xs and Xs Max refurb prices seem really high. I think the Xr refurb is $500 (when they have it in stock), but the Xr wasn't available when I was trying to make my upgrade decision. I ended up with a used Xr. I like the size.

True, but I had asked those questions before knowing the $500 cut off =)

I've had a number of excellent interactions with gazelle. Both with iPhones and MacBooks.

Every time, I've chosen the lowest "appearance level", excited that I could save so much by saying "Hell, yeah, I'll take some scratches on the back!" And every time, I've tried in vain to find anything that isn't perfect. They've all looked like new, acted like new, and were a hell of a lot cheaper than new.
