Fresh yeast bread right out of the oven - Bertucci's if you can get them, or homemade can be even better.

Jun, rhymes with john. My late Korean grandmother made it, taught its making to my mother, who passed it down to my sister, who passed it down to my daughter. Thin sliced beef, marinated in soy sauce, green onions, rice vingar, sugar, sesame seeds overnight, dipped in egg, then flour and fpan fried. I’ve asked Korean students who had worked for me at the university where I worked, but none had heard of it. Seems it may have started with Koreans in Hawaii.

Hmm, depends-

Grass-fed burgers from our friend Farmer Eric nourishes me down to the bones.

Flash-frozen wild salmon caviar lifts me up as well as an excellent cup of espresso

Mole chicken

Home made raspberry ice cream with chocolate straciatellla

Muscato gelati

Pasta alfredo with crab

Fried matzoh with strawberry jam

Really good poke

That's good neough for starters.

You've got to love the raspberry and chocolate culinary combo. It's a classic.

I love high quality chocolate ice cream with raspberry syrup.

I also love quality vanilla ice cream with ganache...

Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy.

Had that last night... except my wife uses an Italian bread crumb coating. A different kind of delicious vs traditional fried chickne.

We alwyas have it with oven grilled asparagas. heaven.

It depends on the season, but a grilled new york strip steak, rare, with some fries and corn on the cob is on my mind right now.

I think we will have that on the 4th. yum smiley

Homemade soups for those cold, wintery days. Double yum smiley

Ice cream. Pistachio. The REAL stuff, not the crappy greenish variety. The best I've ever had was from here: [www.tosci.com] (they used pistachio liqueur in a vanilla base, which made all the difference) ... Ben and Jerry's will do in a pinch though.

So hard to choose, but I think I would have to say freshly baked bread, still warm out of the oven.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

for me, it was my grandmother's cooking, but that's no longer possible.

so, now, it's whatever reminds me of being a kid: fried clams, shrimp in tomato sauce, stuffing (the kind that goes inside the bird and is on the wet side), and apple pie.

When I'm hungry I want the basics -

burger, beer, and fries. my fav is a lamb burger from a specific restaurant. wheat beer.

A nice roast chicken if I want something a little more civilized

ramen can really hit the spot too.

Instant oatmeal with brown sugar and raisins in a Sierra cup by a campfire in the woods by a lake. A Loon calling on the other side of the lake. And just sitting and watching the dawn.

As others have said, my one, true Master Chef has moved on beyond this veil. But that aside, when it comes down to comfort on a plate, my wants are no more aspirational than a competently made meatloaf, mashed potatoes and rolls.

I would not object to some sweet corn on the side and an available full gravy boat, and it goes without saying great quantities of milk as cold as you can get it and still pour it in a glass.

There sure are a lot of syllables I've never seen assembled together in this thread.

Speaking of no longer available, though. In the fall, Dad would put Forest Evashevski's University of Iowa football game on the radio and with my brother and me we would take down the wood framed screens and wash and mount the wood framed storm windows on maybe 30 windows.

Meanwhile mother would bake bread and a few pans of cinnamon rolls which served as a reward for finishing the windows. I think that probably happened only a couple of times because we wolfed those rolls down so fast that mother decided that it was too much work on her part for something that would be gone so fast.

Just finished a generous, supposedly (only) half pound, prime beef burger. Stove top grilled and seasoned to a perfect medium rare, with sauteed peppers & 'shrooms, red leaf lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, Kewpie mayo, Muenster cheese, Crystal (Gold Top) Garlic hot sauce, on a brioche bun. Spousal unit added onions, pickle, course ground mustard, and substituted local hoity-toity bakery's sourdough bread for the brioche bun.

Had we accessorized with anything more, it would've been a food coma.

Of course, good chocolate is quicker and easier as far as soul rejuvenating food coma induction goes....

Choices are endless... but a great burger is right there at the top of the list. Thick quality meat, not a huge variety of add-ons but at least grilled onions, not so big that I can't take a bite. Bun substantial enough to hold it without wimping out.

Pumpkin bread, specifically the ones sold by Giant supermarket in 1990, before they changed the recipe. After 30 years, I still haven’t had success trying to reproduce their recipe, but can still taste it if I close my eyes.

Scrambled eggs, mayonnaise, on white bread.

Grilled cheese and tomato soup.

(The first episode of Snowpiercer cracked me up.)

On occasion, embellish either with a few strips of bacon, not crispy.
