Advice on trading up to a new iPhone SE
Posted by: celliott

My wife has been using an old 6s and wants a new SE. Verizon career. We're going to pay in full with the order- no monthly payment.

Options ordering directly from Apple:
- Verizon specific phone
- Unlocked phone

I've never bought a phone outside of Verizon and I'm not totally sure how it all works.

Any input from anyone?

Thanks.

I'm home recovering a week since having quad bypass surgery. Not a lot of fun, so I'm working on things to keep me busy. This is my second day home.

Hope you recover quickly!

As to buying outside your carrier.... I'm with AT&T but have bought my last 2 phones from Best Buy and Walmart respectively and registering the phone with AT&T and getting them working was a cinch. I doubt you will have a problem.

unlocked. you never know what carrier options will come down the line and if she's moving from a 6s then she will probably hold onto the SE for a long time.

No phone advice, I'm about to upgrade my 6S+ that's been a real trooper for me. I need to get one of those SE's for my sister, who's complaining that her new Jitterbug is worthless. An SE will be a HUGE jump up for her.

Oh, and get well soon!

And get 3% cash back while doing it.

As a fwiw, pretty sure all carriers are interest free as well. Although you do have to pay full tax. another $40.

I moved my iPhone 7 from Verizon to Spectrum last November and there was nothing to it, just a new SIM card, they activated it and that was it. BTW: I'm getting by easily on $14/month, haven't gone over a gig in one month since switching. Actually no one on our account has gone over so $42/month for three lines. Saving right at $1000/year.

Carriers don't give much (if any) of a discount these days. I buy UNLOCKED phones now. It's easy to insert a SIM and, with an unlocked phone, I can change carriers whenever it's best for me as I'm no longer locked into a contract. old fogey smiley

Feel better soon!

Unlocked all the way. Add Verizon, and I think that's all of the antennae bands too.

Major congrats on powering through the surgery. Take your time and get healthy !

I just upgraded from my 6s to an SE-2020. Verizon has been giving me $10/month towards an upgrade. I used it to cut the monthly cost for a 2 year contract. It will unlock once it's paid for.

I don't really care about locked/unlocked because I don't use it outside of the US and Verizon has the best network in my area (NE Ohio).
