I'm a responsible adult and file early as possible 10

I'm a slacker and wait to the last minute 27

73%

I downloaded H&R Block from Amazon. It is supposed to run on Catalina, but for the second year in a row, it throws up and error and will not install on my Mac mini.

Yet, it installs perfectly on my 2008 MBP running 10.11.

Anyway, e-filed both and state and federal tax forms. I think my net refund in $1200. What's that good for? A Mac Air?

I don't know why, but I always what to the end to file my taxes.

I wait when I owe and don't when I don't. This year was a "don't" year -- I filed in March (which is longer than I usually wait when I am due a refund).

It is what it is.

Likewise. The problem for me is that my house is such a mess, I'll have to dig to find all the records.

I always have good intentions. I buy the tax software early, install and make sure everything is going smooth, transfer info from last year, then I drag my feet until the last minute to finish them.

I'll try to get them e-filed by tomorrow, but I was wishing for another extension. Looks like that isn't going to happen.

Started and finished my family's Tax Return yesterday using TurboTax on Catalina. The refund (don't judge) wasn't as big as last year's. The gov must've been screwing around with the tax laws.

I wait when I owe and don't when I don't.

Do them at your convenience. As for filing them, this is pretty much the best answer.

Filed federal early for the refund; just filed state since we owed.

I plan to work on our 2017 return when my tax guy’s busy season is over after the 15th. I’ll probably do ‘18 and ‘19, too. I know I’ll be getting a refund.

...for no good reason, as I always get refunds.

I waited until the 14th to file, only to find the date had been extended.

But I filed anyway.

Years back I got my W-2s in January, and my return in January - eFile and paper check.

If you have a refund coming, you should file as early as possible otherwise, you're making an interest free loan to the Fed.

If you own money, if you file as late as possible, the Fed is providing you with an interest free loan.

Why doesn't this poll have an option for: "I file for an extension so that I can delay doing my taxes until October". Waiting until the last minute is child's play. Real procrastinators can get one extra six months.

I think that I am a candidate for a tax procrastination leader here. Last year we didn't get our info to the accountant soon enough so I filed for a 6-month extension on our 2018 return. We thought that the return went in on October 15th, 2019. However, last week we received a nasty-gram from the IRS that they hadn't received our return. A call to our accountant received the response that the return was supposed to have been filed by an employee (subsequently fired) that hadn't sent it in. So, our 2018 return got sent in mid-July 2020. That's basically 15 months after the due date.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

People who wait last minute to do taxes are not concerned about losing $5 (??) in an interest-free loan to the government for a few months. They just don't want to painfully gather the paperwork, organize, read, enter numbers and,, you know,, DO TAXES.

I TRY to do them early, get all the stuff together, put it in a folder. Then two months later I'm looking for the folder so I can actually do them.

I've consistently filed for extensions since I incorporated my freelance business in 2005. Usually get them in a few days under the extension wire. Just filed my S Corp taxes yesterday. Assuming I get my personal taxes filed by tomorrow, it will be the first time I'm on time in 15 years.

My procrastination is at an end though since my new bride is adamant about filing on time. Is there still a financial benefit to filing jointly?

Oh and I forgot to mention .... one of my brothers is an auditor for the IRS. He used to tease me mercilessly as a child. Now, I realized that he's now getting paid to do it other people as an adult. Some people have all the luck. grinning smiley

Yep.

If there was some significant advantage or I needed the money, it would be a different story.

There isn't, I don't, so I 'round to it when I do.

No way. Writing to the cable company was far worse. I at least have a say in what the $$ tax is spent on...
