ARRIVED: 27lbs of ONE DOLLAR HomeDepot 50' 12-Gauge Outdoor Extension Cords

I ordered a modest 4 cables. 2 for myself. 2 to give away.
Arrived in a 27lb box via FedEx. 12-Gauge cables are HEAVY. Box was pretty beat up. So I took some pics just in case. Illinois to NY in 8 days with a hurricane in-between.

-----
Here's some poetry to make a MRF topic thread about extension cords more entertaining:

'Twas the day after a hurricane, when all through the house
not a creature was stirring, just my "work from home" mouse.

The coffee was poured into my mug with care,
in hopes that HomeDepot cables soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug with books,
with visions of HarryPotter and inquisitive looks.

The wife was at the dentist, and I at my Mac,
had just settled in to my desk I went back.

When out on the porch there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.

Ok... that's it. I'm tired. LOL
The cables arrived. Yay.

I'd wait for space-time to chime in. He might have a few more spares to give away. I think his order is gonna weigh over 200lbs!

that has *got* to be someone messing with the website in certain geographic areas, as no one else could get that price. now, who and why are questions I'm sure HD might be asking.

Great Deal, for once someone won the price mistake lottery.

So what lessons can we learn for our future benefit from this experience about how Home Depot's website and ordering system works. Here's what I think this showed.

1) Prices may vary depending on store and the website shows prices for your selected store.

2) Shipping to home uses the pricing for your selected store even though it ships from their warehouse. So selecting a store with the lowest price anywhere in the country might get you the best deal.

I'm wondering how this might work for some items like LED bulbs that sometimes have local utility subsidies for their in-store pricing.

yah but... that was clearly a mistake. why it showed up so drastically different, like a placeholder for a price, based on geographic location is very suspicious.

I'm thinking maybe that store was not going to stock that item anymore and marked it down to $1 as a clearance price to get rid of what was on the shelf, not realizing the side effects that impact the online ordering system. Or maybe it's an item that's usually on-line only and someone returned one to that store and it might have made sense to sell it for $1 just to get rid of it.

Whatever the reason, it seem like just that store priced that item for $1, and maybe it was a mistake, or maybe they thought it was for just a small quantity in the store that they wanted to disappear, not realizing the on-line ordering ramifications.

Won’t be a clearance item, in store clearance prices do not propagate to the website for Home Depot at least.
