Suggestions for a USB-Bluetooth adapter?

Background -- this would be for my 5,1 Mac Pro running Mojave. I'm using it with a Bluetooth speaker to stream from iTunes; the speaker is only one room away, but I'm getting a lot of stuttering / interference when streaming. The speaker has BT 5.0, but of course the Mac Pro is nowhere near that.

I'm thinking a big part of the problem is the same one I was having with this Mac Pro's wifi, namely that it sucks because the machine is essentially a large Faraday cage. (I solved the wifi problem with a lot of help from all of you here, by using a reasonably cheap USB-wifi adapter... drastically improved my wifi.)

So ... I'm thinking maybe the same kind of fix for the Bluetooth. Are there any adapters I should especially look for, or avoid? Is there an adapter that would bring it up to BT 5.0?

Jeezo. I didn't think it'd be that complicated; was looking for something reasonably plug-and-play. I just did a quick search for the Ultimate Mac Pro Upgrade Guide to see whether they mentioned anything about it, and they did... they mentioned this one: [www.amazon.com]
(only BT 4.0 and not 5.0, but that might be OK if the problem is really the Mac Pro's lousy BT/wifi antenna... might have wanted something with a moveable antenna though...)

I think that article is from years ago... it was long ago -- but pretty sure I used an mpow on on my 2010 iMac without any issues.

might have been plug and play... worth some research

Right, but in terms of Mac-compatibility, it seems it's a little hit-or-miss with these things.

Also, I notice that none of the Mac-compatible ones are BT 5.0? Is that a coincidence? (I thought that BT 5.0 is supposed to give a big advantage in terms of transmission distance...)

I think 4 is 30-40 feet and 5 will do double.

A cheapo that uses Broadcom chipset, USB 2.0 extension cable and your set.
Pull the CPU tray & disconnect the on-board BT module.
Use the cable to get USB port above desktop/monitors.
That's how I did it many years ago, mine is 4.0; here's the SysInfo:
