Seeking advice: Used iPhone Purchase

Background: current 6S+ has recurring faulty stabilizer issue like pRICE cUBE
noted some time ago. [forums.macresource.com]

Not wanting the 'latest/greatest' thought I'd look for another 6S+ or spend a
little more for a 7+; $150+ vs $180+ (unlocked versions).
eBay is out, too many multiple choice listings make my head explode.

So it's down to Gazelle and Swappa. My only concern with Gazelle is their listings
fail to provide battery condition. Is there a forum favorite?

comparisons:
6S+ 128GB Space Grey $194 "FAIR" (Gazelle)
Swappa:
6S+ [A1634] 128GB Gold $194 "Excellent, 100% Btry"
7 Plus (A1661) Red 128GB $240 "GOOD"
7 Plus (A1784) Black 128GB $264 "MINT CONDITION"

($264 is just over my $250 'budget')

I'd wait a few weeks until the new iPhone ships. There should be a ton of people dumping old phones once they get their new one.

I prefer swappa, most sellers will either give the battery health in the description or show a photo of the battery health screen

Ditto both of the above. I have sold an iPhone on Swappa and consider them the "honest person's corner" to sell this stuff. Contrast that with eBay where some jacka55 sent me a Chinese version iPhone and did not mention that little factoid anywhere in the listing. They don't have WiFi as we do, it's some other standard. Yet another eBay jacka55 sent me an iPhone he claimed was 100% functional...earpiece did not work. At all.

First phone went straight back for refund. Luckily the local AS ruined the second phone doing an earpiece diagnostic...they gave me a replacement so that idiot was off the hook. I still gave him a bad review.

If I were you, I might look for new old stock. I've seen it out there.

Also - even better: you might shop cell phone providers and see who's offering deals. You can often get a free phone that way for the same or better rates than what you're paying now.

That's what I was thinking, I can live with my 6S+ for now.

...you might shop cell phone providers...
Yeah, did that already. Nada

I'll just keep an eye on Swappa, hopefully prices will drop after Halloween or so.
Thanks all!

FWIW, I've bought 2 "good" iPhones from Swappa, both from individual sellers. Both looked mint to me.

I expect that individual sellers will be inclined to either, 1. underrate their phone so there's a very small possibility that it will be sent back, or 2. overrate their phone because they're being dumb. I used the photos to bet that the 2 that I bought were underrated and I think they were. I would be less inclined to buy from a reseller because they don't have to put pictures of the actual phone on the site but rather something that represents the quality of the phone.

Bought my last two on swappa. Good experience.

MrN,

Don't waste time or money on an iPhone 7 series. If you're going to go for an older model, look at the iPhone 8 series. Two words: wireless charging. It's a game changer. I wouldn't consider a phone that lacks it.

<[forums.macresource.com];

'course, the phone companies are going to have deals on phones due to the release of the iPhone 12. I grabbed a deal to move from a 6S to an 11 Pro back in March/April. If I could've waited for a 12, I'd've waited for it and found a deal. Circumstances didn't allow.
