Which TOS Trek movie do you watch most?

Something about this movie gives me good Trek vibes. It isn't as engaging and exciting as The Wrath of Khan but it is more fun.

Being a Utah person, this jokes cracks me up every single dang time.

Dr. Gillian Taylor (Catherine Hicks): [Speaking loudly enough from her stopped pickup truck so that Kirk and Spock can hear her.] Well, if it isn't Robin Hood and Friar Tuck. Where're you fellas headin'?

Capt. Kirk (William Shatner): Back to San Francisco. [Kirk and Spock continue walking slowly.]

Dr. Gillian Taylor: You came all the way down here just to jump in and swim with the kiddies, huh?

Capt. Kirk (William Shatner): There's very little point in my trying to explain.

Dr. Gillian Taylor: Well, yeah, I'll buy that. What about him? [Indicating Spock.]

Capt. Kirk (William Shatner): Him? He's harmless! Back in the sixties he was part of the Free Speech movement at Berkeley. I think he did a little too much LDS.

[Kirk and Spock have now walked the rest of the way to Gillian's truck. Although Spock is right next to him, Kirk puts his hand to the side of his mouth and leans his head toward Gillian when he says that Spock "did a little too much LDS," as if to say this line only to her.]

Dr. Gillian Taylor: LDS? [Incredulously.]

Capt. Kirk (William Shatner): Mmm. [His sub-verbal utterance means "yes."]

Dr. Gillian Taylor: [Sizing Kirk and Spock up, she decides that they are certainly odd, but probably not dangerous. Furthermore, she wants to know what they were doing in her whale tank.] Come on, why don't you let me give you a lift. I have a notorious weakness for hard luck cases. That's why I work with whales.

Capt. Kirk (William Shatner): We don't want to be any trouble.

Dr. Gillian Taylor: You've already been that. Come on.

IV captures the personality of the original series the best. Actually V also does that but it's so bad in other ways that everyone usually skips it.

I prefer VI. It feels like a crossroads and uses the different characters pretty well. Also seems less mired in the '80s or even '70s which is the only blot on II. III seems like fan service, but not in a bad way. It's just a little less compelling, though.

Edit: but III has a few of my favorite scenes from all of Trek.

Kirk kicking Kruge in the face while he's dangling over the fires of a dying planet. Kirk: "I [kick] have had enough [kick] of you!! [kick].

and, watching his ship burning up on re-entry after using the self-destruct to cleverly kill the Klingon boarding party:

Kirk: "My God, Bones. What have I done?"
McCoy: "You've done what you've always done. Turned certain death into a fighting chance to survive."

Perfect.

Well, in the Undiscovered Country we heard Shakespeare in the original Klingon...

And for the inside joke Zoidberg and I are referring to -

La-La Land Star Trek The Motion Picture Soundtrack

While it's not my favorite Star Trek movie, it's "THE" sound of Trek done by the master.

(edit - holy crap, since it's out of print (only 10,000 pressed) it's selling for $118.99 on Amazon. Insane!)

Good Luck!

I really don't like any of them except Wrath of Khan which feels to me like the pinnacle of the original series imo.

You'll usually see people recommend only watching the even numbered ones, in order, through #8.

IMO #3 is also a reasonable option being the best of the weaker ones. If you can last through #1 without falling asleep, then kudos to you. #5 has some laughably bad parts in it, there are much better things to spend your time on. I haven't seen #7 in long enough time but I don't remember it being well-written or well-thought out. I may not have even seen #9 and 10, so if I actually have, that's not exactly a ringing endorsement.

I like The Undiscovered Country the best, but then my favorite TOS episode is "The Way to Eden". (maybe it is the LDS influence on me with those stylish white shirts and thin black ties)

Undiscovered Country is my favorite movie, but Voyage Home is more fun.

Insurrection (South Pacific in Space while DS9 was remaking Tora Tora Tora)
Nemesis

TMP has the best soundtrack. Still listen on occasion.

Hmmm... my order would be slightly different:

2
First Contact
3
4 / 6
Generations
1
Nemesis
Insurrection
5

(I really think Nemesis gets way too much hate, and really, does anyone want to listen to "Row, Row, Row your boat" or lines like, "Give me your pain" ?)

... and as for soundtracks, TWOK has one of the best ever, just super-intense and each track reminds you of what was happening in that particular scene. I agree with you though that TMP has a good one.

Insurrection (South Pacific in Space while DS9 was remaking Tora Tora Tora)...

We got fake outs on the lake
Past the holographic bridge
We got metaphasic particles
That can heal a cut or break
We got exiles and they're pissed
Wrinkled bastards got stretched skin

What ain't we got?
We ain't got ships!

Data's crazy, runs amok
We get older, doesn't show
We get Picard chasing tail
Admiral's just a cold war mole
We get kidnapped, genes get diced
What's with Geordi not so blind?

What don't we get?
You know darn well!

We have nothin' to put on a clean red suit for
What we need is what there ain't no substitute for!

There is nothin' like a ship!
Nothin' in the system
There is nothin' cloaked or gripped
That is anythin' like a ship!

Can't beat Wrath of Khan. It's deliciously campy.

The wife always forgets ST 10: The Death of a Franchise (Nemesis).

I remind her - then she remembers and asks me to not remind her in the future.

ST V has some great lines - Bones gets some of the best. I am still looking for the original Shatner cut with more horses and w/o the additional reshot ending (notice the hair cut changes when they get past the great barrier).

There isn't a clunker among them (well maybe ST 10). The even ones are way better than the odd ones though.

Yes, I have always preferred IV: The Voyage Home. In fact, I love that movie and it's the only one I really enjoy rewatching.
