Asian giant hornet.

"The WSDA scheduled a 2 p.m. press conference Friday to share more information about the nest." [king5.com]

Check news sites about 3 p.m. if you want the most current update. They plan to wipe out the nest Saturday (tomorrow).

Ive got to assume its really remote property? Otherwise as the property owner, id think seeing these things flying around would be a small casue for "oh $%^&!"

Yes. I got my bees and hornet nomenclature mixed up.

Are they sure they are "murder" hornets? I mean, it is possible that this group might just be "manslaughter" ["beeslaughter"?] hornets?

Sure, they might decimate a hive - but perhaps it was never about "murdering" any bees - just providing precious food to their poor hungry hornet children!

They chop the heads off adult bees, leaving piles of heads and bodies. That's pretty much murder right their.

Then they carry off young bees back to the hornets' homes to feed their children.

At the same time, politicians here do seem seem to think it's okay repeatedly rob a homeowner as long as the robber isn't a homeowner. Burglary isn't a crime in that case.

There are small farms in the area and a few undeveloped parcels between 10 acres to maybe 40 acres.

They apparently vacuumed the nest out of the tree, and are now going to take down the tree for good measure....

And the question is, how many more of these nests are there? It's rather unlikely that this was the only one, and good luck at finding them all...

The news had more info on this site and it implied an address.

Valentine Rd., Blaine, WA

It is in an area of fairly heavily forested land, and less than 3 miles from the Canadian border. I would think there is a good chance another nest could be in Canada.
