The company I was working for had a system at Aberdeen Proving Grounds at the same time the M1 competition was being tested (late 70's). At the time, all the low-level people were saying the GM version was superior in everything except speed. Chrysler then won the contract and they theorized it was only to help them out of their financial situation at the time...

As a part of a diverse employment past, I spent a summer around M1 tanks at Aberdeen Proving Grounds! They were VERY loud, SUPER hot, and quite fast...

Fortunately, their Apple versions only kept the fast part...

At least they produced something worthwhile as part of their bailout the first time.
