URGENT QUESTION: freezer burn, is the meat still OK to eat?

I have a 2-3 lb piece of beef that was loose in a plastic bag. No zip lock, not even tied, just loose and there is a ton of ice on the meat.

I had it in the chest freezer for about 3 months I guess. Is it still good?

(I usually put stuff in zip lock bags, I am not sure why this is was not in zip lock bag, probably spouse put it there).

Yes. Make stew with it.

Yes it's edible, but will be dried out and not taste nearly as good as you would hope for. If severe freezer burn, I wouldn't waste my time on it. If minor burn, it would be salvageable, IMO.

As mentioned, a good candidate for a stew or other meal that is cooked in a sauce.

Cook it up and feed it to the dogs. Otherwise, as mentioned, in a stew or soup it would be passable.

I defrosted it and there was plenty of juice coming out... so I will give a try. It's cooking in a sous vide as we speak, and I will finish it on the gas grill outside. if it's dry, I have backup dinner smiling smiley

Your grill will moisturize it just fine. I buy steaks by the bunch when they are on sale, toss them in the freezer where they desiccate. Preparing them on the grill rehydrates them.

it was "OK". Not the best steak by far, but acceptable.

Next time: try sticking it in a marinade overnight in the fridge. WARNING, do not click if you are really hungry!: [therecipecritic.com]
