IKEA - WTH?
Posted by: sekker
Date: November 21, 2020 07:20PM
Went today to get a couple items, took 30+ min to checkout with 8 lanes open. They were moving, just a TON of customers. Too many I think.

Just wow.

Not going back during weekend until much later.

Seems like a normal weekend at Ikea to me.

...Which it shouldn't be. Did it look like they were trying to limit the number of people entering?

Does your state cap the number allowed in? And if not, what state is it that we all should avoid until late 2022 when we've got a vaccine?

MN store around Twin Cities, there was a line to get into the store - was a line to get into the parking lot when we left.

I lived there for 12+ years, never seen IKEA that busy even during holiday weekends.

Real crowded, eh? Maybe you should have bought a coffin along with the dresser.

Might be busier than normal but going to ikea on the weekend is a rookie move.

Yeah. Never do that. Not heeding my own advice, I once went on a Sunday evening, on Labor Day weekend. Hahahaha.

Yeah, they seem to be super busy for some reason.
My daughter has been trying to order some curtains for curbside pick up, and they won’t even let her place the order, even though they have like 48 in stock.
They will also not ship them.

Not my plan or idea, but we needed to visit the nearest Apple Store (which is over 80 miles from home) so thought we'd try to do a two-for-one trip.

No way we'll do that mistake again!

Our mall was crowded today when we drove by to get to our pharmacy’s drive through window. Usually it’s dead.

Didn't Sweden choose to ignore what most other countries adopted as Covid-19 limiting measures and just decide to go with 'herd immunity" (which I hear is NOT working out well for them)? smiley-shocked003

Yes, and focused on 'personal responsibility.'

Except they has scientists proposing this, not ridiculous politicians.

I've seen those same scientists deny this plan, despite my hearing them due interviews and podcasts around the herd immunity plan.

Why so busy? I haven't been to a mall more than once before today since COVID started.

When I'm up in the cities I usually go there around 7-8pm on Thursday night. Dead. Usually get dinner somewhere in Bloomington around 4:30, then hit up REI around 6pm.

Cheap desks for "work from home" office and home schooling were the most popular sold out items when we went a few months ago when they were allowed to reopen. Lined up on a weekday morning before it opened to get in. All 4 items on our list was sold out. With no firm date of when it might be back in stock. The worker at the terminal just said that they get warehouse shipments every day but they don't know what will be coming in beforehand. The website stock check was not working or taken offline.

Indeed!

I went to Costco on a Saturday morning early, a couple of months ago.

There was a line to get in but it moved fast.

I spent about 20min in the store, got a slice, and left.

The line to get in was horrendous.

There were a lot of people waiting to get in.

I need one more trip to get me through into January, and I'll try next week.

My guess is that it was early holiday shoppers. Our area is a virus hotspot so shop before you drop.

Daughter was able to place a Pick Up order today for the curtains.
We will see when they say it is actually ready and how long I will have to fetch it.
Then I will have to ship them to her in NYC, which seems crazy, but I guess it is what it is. One IKEA to service Atlanta or one IKEA to service the whole of metro NYC. I guess there is no wonder ATL would get them in stock before NYC, lol.
Crazy that they won't ship them from the store, but I guess that would take too much of their limited manpower.
Also, they would not let her add on a few of their really good dark chocolate bars, for me. They said that was an in-store only purchase. cry smiley
