Someone went to BLM Forum design camp!
Posted by: Markintosh

I can't like that new "ignore" feature.

I know how to ignore posts I don't want to see. I just don't look.

I can't sleep at night thinking that people may purposefully click the "Ignore" button after I have poured my heart and soul into answering questions and making stupid comments.

Shouldn't it just be up to the admins to ban flagrant posters like MacKiller?

Now add your 2 cents....

<Corrected spelling, afraid that someone would ignore me!>

I almost didn't notice it. I must have accidentally clicked it though, cause I saw a message that said "see user's posts".

Some people just can't "get along" and for some reason can't seem to ignore each other the old fashioned way either. Giving them the option to ignore each other is OK by me.

It's called a "kill filter" among other things. Banning users only helps so much.

I'm really glad to see this feature here.

I just clicked on the "ignore" next to my own nick. Apparently you can set it up so you ignore yourself.

Will this help with the voices?

Maybe we can look at putting it in the user preferences so it's not an accidental click.

As we are looking to keep the forum pretty open and friendly without moderator intervention - except where absolutely necessary (talking over the edge language, etc) - the feature is kinda self-moderation feature.

Still tweaking stuff ya know. smiling smiley

Good one, Lux!

Personally, I don't use it, but I have my own "ignore filter" between my ears that works just fine. But I know some people who have a real problem with certain other users who think this is a great thing, so it is nice for them that it is available, I guess. Myself, I hope its use is kept to a minimum.

I'm half expecting [ Abort ], [ Retry ], [ Fail ] to sneak in there somewhere before [ Ignore ].

That's odd - my button say "igore" instead of "ignore"

Doesn't appear to do anything anyway :-/

'Tis better to have an ignore filter and not want it, then to want one and not have it.

Oh, and I'm a compulsive and pretty fast reader, so I actually can't just scroll past a post without reading at least some of it almost by accident. So the ignore feature is nice for me.

I don't mind the ignore feature..
There are only a very very few posters that I can think of that I want to ignore... that I can honestly say have NEVER contributed anything that I wish to read.
Probably won't use it much, but it'll be handy for those very few.

mick e can't bring himself to use the [ignore] feature. Here's a hypethetical example of why:

Let's suppose that some @#$%& decides to make a pissy cheapshot comment about mick e. Well if mick e had the aforementioned @#$%&'s ID set to ignore, he would miss the fact that he was attacked for no reason, and thus fail to defend himself.

Now - in light of recent events - mick e is reasonably sure that no such scenario will occur, but it's good to see the whole thread - just in case it does.

mick,

why don't you give it a rest! Go buy yourself several guns, find a clock tower or church steeple and pop off a few shots.

It relieves tension and always sets the "restart button" when I do it.

As a damp-pantsed handwringing liberal, mick e has no access to such firepower. Do you think driving out to the suburbs and slashing some SUV tires might have a similar effect?
