QS 2002 G4 fan question
Posted by: Billiken

I came into the office last night and noticed the smell of way-too-hot electronics. My QS 2002 1ghz-Dual was locked up, and the the smell was definitely coming from that machine.

After leaving it turned off all night, this morning I booted it with no problems. However, looking in the case, I see that the main case fan is running, while, after 20 min. of operation, the power supply fan is not running, nor is the processor fan.

Are these 2 fans supposed to be running constantly, or do they turn on when needed? (e.g. should I run it longer to see if they kick in, or are they toast?)

Thanks for any feedback!

I think that all three fans are supposed to be running. I have a QS 2002 933 and I can feel at least two fans (the main and the power supply) venting out heat.

Get those fans replaced immediately. You may have already shortened the life of the power supply - you may just want to get a new one.
