Does Yahoo email via company computer stay on company HD?

My friend sent me an email using the state computer where he works with a link to an article critical of the governor. He sent it from his state email account. I called his cell phone and said, "Ix-ney, ix-ney."

He's a computer novice and said he wasn't even thinking and that he would use his Yahoo email from now on. I told them that might even be stored on the state HD and not to do it.

So, I assume Yahoo email is not safe on a state or company computer, right?

Yahoo Mail is webmail and the messages are stored on Yahoo's computers.

Is it 99.99% safe at work, then?

Some companies have proxies. I am unclear as to how much these can do.

I know at my company when they used one, they knew what pages people were surfing to.

But I'm not sure if they could see the body of text flowing through messages.

There are a lot of people on here who are smarter than me that can hopefully shed some light.

The safest rule about emailing ANYTHING from work is this;
If you wouldn't write/send it with your boss reading it over your shoulder, don't write/send it from work AT ALL.

Agree with Paul F. 101%.
Companies do install snoop software to spy on their employees with or without the employees' knowledge. At old IT job, my former boss even told us about the testing phrase! These stealth software do scan email and websites.

Look, with redness and swelling like that, you don't need to be a brain surgeon to tell somebody to DRAIN THAT THING and get it CUT OFF! I hope the pus has dried up by now.

Don't be surprised if the secret police come and whisk him away in the dead of night, never to be seen again.

Proxies can store-and-forward. Text snoopers can read web mail (Interarchy can snoop your own 'net connection if you'd like to see what they'd see).

'Safest thing would be to use PGP.
