iPhone beats iPod Touch hands-down

So I ordered 2 refurb iPhones...

My brother needed a new cell plan anyway and he really wanted an iPhone.

I am in the UK and probably won't attempt the hardware hack. I still bought an iPhone for myself.

The iPhone has all of the iPod Touch features plus camera, email client, and cell phone. Even if I can't use the cell phone features, I bought the refurb 8GB iPhone for $349 vs. the $299 price for the iPod Touch.

Peace.

Can you use all the features of the iPhone, like Wi-Fi browsing, right out of the box with no activation at all? I don't need a cell phone plan and was thinking of getting the refurb iPhone instead of the touch, like you, but I wasn't sure if all the features would work without activation.

"needed a new cell plan"

after that, you really can't compare the two.

There are a few programs that allow you to bypass the iPhone activation. Using one of them essentially gives you an iPod Touch plus camera and the ability to add cellular when you are ready.

Also, there is one company that says they have developed a software hack to unlock the phone. That company is suspect at this time in my opinion (iphonesimferee.com)

Do you have links to the any of "by pass" programs? I would be interested in reading more about them before making a decision.

If you have installed iTunes 7.4, please look at the link above.

that's what will sell me on an iPhone - being able to use the wifi w/o a plan. maybe the ability to hack a little GPS into it.. ;-/

Yep. I'll probably get an iPhone on Monday when the iPhoneSIMFree people are reported to officially release their stuff.

You can try to activate the phone with SSN 999-99-9999 or actually activate it then cancel with in the trial period. Either way the iPhone is activated, yet has no phone service.

Seems like using a program would be easier.
