How to force Safari to download PDF files?

Is there a way to force Safari to always download PDFs and open them in Preview as it did in Panther? I followed the instructions in the article entitled "PDF files open in your Web browser instead of downloading to your hard disk" in Safari Help but it has no effect.

I'm also aware of the option-key workaround (it only downloads the PDF and doesn't open it automatically in Preview) and the control-key workaround (opens in Preview from the browser window).

from [www.macosxhints.com]

1. Quit Safari
2. Open Terminal
3. type at the prompt:

defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool YES

4. Hit return.
5. Relaunch Safari sans ability to view PDFs inline.

To reverse the processes, change the YES to NO in step #3.

You can also control+click the PDF, and pick "View in Preview".

Adobe Reader Preferences... --> Internet --> Display PDFs in browser... (uncheck)

Seems to me this doesn't always "stick" though; I think I've had to do this a number of times - maybe updates revert the setting.
