Am I the only one who feels that the Atari 2600 sucked? Advanced for its time (compared with other TV consoles), but pathetic next to the arcade games of the time. The Nintendo box and the Atari 5200 that followed were actually good, but the 2600 was crapola.

Remember when they tried to do PacMan? You would eat the hyphens on the sides with your mouth, but the ones above you were sucked in through the top of your head.

There are some classic games for that system - don't remember how the 2600 badge came about - there was just a classic atari console without numbers on it - and the 2600 plays those games - and other?

Either way - one thing about good ole atari games - didn't have to remember what 50 button combinations do.

Really like the intellivision too. IMHO - that system rocked in it's time... with the nifty membrane button controller with controller and the slide in control diagrams so you knew what the buttons were for in each game.

No matter what - was a lot of good, fun... for all ages. By the time my son starts playing games, heck - I won't stand a chance at those that he can pick up in 2 seconds. Will still be fun. smiling smiley

Agreed--but that was true of the arcade games too--REAL PacMan was a great game... Ms. PacMan even better... both available in a $15 plug and play version.

Atari 2600 ROCKED!

Atari 5200 SUCKED! I just sold my 'in original box' 5200 on eBay. It sucked from day ONE. Those controllers were the worst ever made.

Yeah, we had the IntelliVision and it kicked the 2600's butt all over the place. Well, as much as blocky graphics could in that era. I still have it in my basement with a bunch of the games. Larry is right, at least all the games were easy to operate back then. No PhD of Gaming required.

If you like those classic games, I have something for you: MACMAME.

> MACMAME

Is there a MacMame for Dummies book?--I dl'd it once and couldn't get a clue as to where/how to acquire the games... seems like a not-so-gray area of legality there re: copyrights, and maybe that's why the sites are so inscrutable.
