Very confused about eBay auction

The other night I saw a special for 20 cent fixed auction listings in my eBay inbox, so I bit.
I listed an item buy-it-now, and on Wednesday got all the appropriate notifications that it sold for $35 (plus $10 shipping)-- one from eBay, and one directly from the buyer.
I responded to the buyer last night (a hotmail account) and just found a bounce message from 10 something this morning:

Action: failed
Status: 5.5.0
Diagnostic-Code: smtp;550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable

I logged in to my ebay to try to contact the seller va eBay, and there is absolutely nothing under "selling" or any of its subcategories. Last night I noticed I couldn't find any communication specific to this sale in "my messages", but just assumed that was one of the many odd ebay quirks that I can no longer keep up with, so I let it go.

Anyone know of anything odd happening with eBay at the moment? I have no idea what to make of this.

Log into eBay.

Check your items sold.

What does it say has sold?

Good thinking, but nope, never, and I am logged in as me.

In the meantime I found the link to my auction in the message I received when the listing went live, and it's still there (and I've sent another message to the buyer through eBay).
But it's my only record of this listing . . .

And, the 20 cent listing showed as $2.20 when all was said and done-- I triple checked the wording and I should have qualified for the 20 cent price, plus a few more cents for subtext, and a few more for a scheduled start . . .

You didn't get the 20 cent listing fee unless your item was sold at a fixed price... If you ran a regular "auction" then you don't qualify for the 20 cent fee.

I didn't think the terms were terribly inscrutable. My auction was fixed price. Isn't that what buy-it-now means? I'm starting to wonder if my initial post is visible.

Perhaps a little clarification is in order-- My subject line was meant to say that I am confused about this particular auction-- not confused in general.

The $2.20 total you see probably includes $1.63 in Final Value Fees. The Final value Fee is dependent on the sale price, and is separate from the listing fees. See fee info here:
[pages.ebay.com]

When something sells, eBay doesn't generally send a message to your myeBay inbox, just to your external email address. It is curious, though that you don't see the item showing in your items sold section.

You ought to be able to get a phone number for your buyer by using the "Find Contact Information" feature. If you click on the Advanced Search link, you will see a Find Contact Information link on the left side of the page. This link will ask for the ID of the member you are looking for as well as the auction number for the listing involved.

Good luck with it.

Damit, Janit! (just had to say that)
Thanks for the great info. You are absolutely right.
Whoopee!!! I saved a dollar!! Glad I listed, since I'd already "lost" two auctions trying to sell this thing (an air compressor component) and it was starting to rot.
The auction closed via B-I-N yesterday morning, and payment hasn't been received yet (supposed to be mailed), so no reason to call the seller yet-- I asked for confirmation of their shipping address (it's easy to not remember what info you have on file with eBay) via eBay messages.
The e-mail I received from the buyer was odd-- it was sot of demanding I send the item as soon as I receive payment (money order).
Anyone who uses a hotmail account for eBay is asking for trouble, IMO . .
