Share kb and mouse without kvm?

Is there some kind of switch that shares just the kb and mouse without the video part? Or should I just buy a cheap kvm and ignore the video? I don't want to use software like synergy or abyssoft. Thanks! kj.

Why not use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse?

The other computer is a pc that doesn't have bluetooth. Plus, it's too expensive. kj.

So you want to have one set of keyboard and mouse for two computers, but each with their own monitors?
Have I got a solution for you: Synergy.

[synergy2.sourceforge.net]

I use it very often, and it owns.

I use a Belkin F1U200X2 USB switch as my monitor accepts 2 inputs.

I have generic USB switches, which are probably similar to olnacl's Belkin, and have made sure all recent [read that, LCD] monitors have been of the dual input variety.... only LCD monitor w/ single input is a VGA only 15" NEC w/ big pixels, easy on eyes for pallet use.

and then there's times when it's really better.

For a Windows XP Pro computer I use relatively infrequently and lightly when I do, I use Remote Desktop Connection. It isn't a great solution if you are running Virtual PC on the Windows machine or if you are gaming, but for most other things, it seems pretty good. Plus, I don't need to have a display connected to the PC.

I'm going to give 'chips suggestion a try.

I've got a CRT and an LCD that have to go on one XP box, and an *additional* XP box is enroute.

I'll need both boxes, and at times both monitors will need to be on only one of the two boxes. Other times it will be one monitor on one box and one on the other.

The only slight rub is that the Acer monitor uses the standard yet arcane four button/drill down OSD method for switching monitors instead of the Dell's push-the-button method.

Going from one computer and monitor to the other might work just fine with that software.

I've tried the software thing (vnc esp) and it causes problems for me. Also the performance isn't good enough. My monitor switches easily between the vga and digital input, so I can have the mac and the pc hooked up to it. So a usb switch, and I should be good to go. I'll take a look at olnacl's suggestion. Thanks! kj.

Keep an extra KB/Mouse set (wireless) standing by in a cabinet or drawer.

I can't find that anywhere. Plus, lots of the switches seem to share a printer with several computers, which I don't think would work for this. It's lookin' like I'm on my own here. Thanks anyway, kj.
