Happy day
Posted by: Gutenberg

For nine years I have been working to get a big new library branch for the neighborhood where I work--convincing the library system that this is the best place to build, going to community groups, going door to door for the bond issue, planning and pushing the city to move on the project. We finally broke ground, three years late, in September.

Early this morning they started setting steel and the building is taking shape. I don't know if this webcam link will work:

If it doesn't, go to [www.baltimoreguide.com] and where it says "CLICK HERE" click there.

I am so happy. We'll be ready to open spring '07.

READER!

I'm happy for you!

I may just go out and get a library card, in your honor, Gutie. I've been comtemplating that for a few days now.

Blu, we're going to be lending audio books on iPod shuffles, does that count? System wide, our computer labs are donated by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, so you know what brand they are. But they and the software are free, so it's almost worth the money.

Thanks for your good wishes, everybody. I am so happy.

Corey says he's going to do better in Baltimore than he did in Chicago, Minty. Wouldn't be hard.

They are also moving back into the firehouse next door--they've been out for two years because the building was literally falling down around their ears. Things are looking up! Ten years ago this neighborhood was on its knees.

Rammie, that's so funny. You go get a library card and I will pay your first fine up to $1.25.
