how fast can a normal person run 100 meters?

I know the Jamican guy ran it 9.6 something. So how fast does a non-olympian run it?

where are you from? the average american can barely walk no more than the distance between Walmart and the nearest parking spot, let alone run 100m.

I am wondering the same thing. I know I am pretty fast, always have been, but I was never part of any track events so I have no idea what my time would be. Although I am very light skinned so that already puts a damper on my time...

12 seconds is fast. 14 is probably more like it for someone of high school age in moderately good shape and trying hard in PE class.

I like the mile distance much better. I always remember the limiting factor on my 100 yard/meter time was the ability of my legs to move fast and stay coordinated, rather than my stamina. It seems that I hit a certain speed and then running any faster I would start to stumble because my legs couldn't keep up with how fast I was trying to run.

They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

I can walk a mile in 15 minutes. So 100 meters takes me 56 seconds.

Junior high itself went the way of the 100 yard dash.

Oops, I was right the first time but a little typo followed. Meant to say 2 Metres = 1 Fathom or there about. Close enough for a Mars landing.

When I was in high school they only did dashes in yards - like they did for you in Jr High. My senior year I routinely ran the 100 yard dash in 10.2 sec., but one time I was able to do it 10.0 sec. flat. There were a lot of guys who could run it faster, though.

I remember my best time in the 100 yard in high school was about 11.5 seconds. I was not the best pure sprinter but I was pretty fast. My best 1/4 mile time was 54.6 seconds. I would guess I could run 100 meters in about 19 seconds today without hurting myself too badly.

in tha 510.

I was in my 20's when they started in the US. Now I am in my 50's. Given the stall in progress towards metrification here, I am beginning to wonder if it will finish during my lifetime.

About as fast as we move away from a two-party political system.

Wouldn't we have to get back to a two party system before we could get away from it.
